The need for affordable housing continues in the Music City, and this week is your chance to receive a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher. The online application will open on Tuesday at noon and close Friday at 3 in the afternoon.

The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency help more than 7,000 individuals and families in Davidson County. Those using the program pay between 30 and 40 percent of their adjusted income towards their rent and utilities, and MDHA pays the landlord the difference. This allows property owners to receive fair market value for their units while providing individuals and families an affordable place to live.

To qualify, an individual must make $28,000 or less and a family of four with a household income of $40,000. The waiting list is NOT on a first-come, first-served basis. So as long as you apply during the waiting list period, you have an equal chance of being placed near the top of the waiting list.

If you need help filling out the online application, MDHA staff will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 and Thursday, Oct. 24 at Vine Hill Studio Apartments at 625 Benton Ave. to assist participants who need help completing the online application. Assistance will also be provided by Catholic Charities of Tennessee from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the open application period at the C.E. McGruder Family Resource Center at 2013 25th Ave. North. Anyone needing access to a computer with internet service may visit a public library.
