Austin Peay Police have asked for the public's help in search for a man who they said has attacked two female students on campus.

They said he's guilty of assault and sexual battery.

"The first one he grabbed around the neck area and slapped her in the face, and the second one he slapped her on the buttocks," said APSU Police Chief Michael Kasitz.

Kasitz said the first attack happened Thursday, March 31 at 5 p.m. The second happened Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. Both attacks were within a few hundred yards of each other, near the Browning building in the heart of campus.

"I think what's going on is kind of crazy," said student Tom Sparr.

"It makes you question being here at night and walking around by yourself after late classes," said student Jessica Dixon.

Surveillance cameras caught the man walking in and out of the Science Building. Police also have video of him running away from the second attack.

They said both times he took off going the same direction, running around the back of the University Center building.

"If it is the same person I do worry maybe a little bit what he may do next," said student Maryjane Christianson.

Christianson said she felt safe on campus,  but other students said they've changed their routine until the man is caught.

"Probably be more cautious when I'm leaving class and making sure of where I'm at and who's around," Dixon said.

Police are increasing patrols, especially in the area around the attacks. They're asking for tips from anyone who recognizes the man or his clothes.

"He's very brazen, he obviously acts on impulse and doesn't think," Chief Kasitz said.

They don't want any other students to fall victim. "We want our community to get back to normal," Kasitz said.

Police are telling students to travel in pairs and to call them if anyone ever feels like they need an escort. Contact the APSU Police Department at 931-221-7786 or by email at apsupolice@apsu.edu.
