Austin Peay State University officials alerted students to a report of a man with a handgun on campus, but police didn't find a suspect.
Police officers responded to the area of Burt Lot where the man was spotted.
Officials told students to avoid that area as well as Harned Hall as officers worked to clear the building and escort occupants out. They asked students to follow police instructions.
Police said the building and area was cleared, but no suspect was found. They said they would continue to search the campus.
The gunman was described as wearing blue jeans, a blue/gray pullover and white shoes with buzzed brown hair.
