MT. JULIET, Tenn. - An armed robbery in Mt. Juliet took a strange turn after police found the suspected robber dead about an hour and a half later.
Officials with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office were responding to a separate incident when they said they found the robber’s body around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a home near the Cumberland River in north Mt. Juliet.
Those with the police department said it was the same man who robbed a store at gunpoint earlier in the evening.
The robbery happened before 9 p.m. Saturday at the Corner Market on Benders Ferry Road.
At the convenience store, officers said the suspect grabbed a case of beer and ran out.
The clerk and a witness nearby tried to stop him as he was getting into his SUV, but police said he pointed a revolver at them.
While he was driving away, the clerk said he fired one shot out of his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
An hour and a half later the suspect was found dead at a home on Lakeview Drive, just five miles north of the store.
The Wilson County Sheriff's Office has been investigating, but they’ve said they were not seeking a suspect in the robber’s death.
The suspect's name and how he died have not yet been released pending an autopsy.
