Officers were called out to help an armed robbery suspect after he fell down a river embankment while trying to get away.
The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. Saturday near Church Street and 2nd Avenue North in downtown Nashville.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said the suspect robbed several women and then drove off.
The victims apparently followed the suspect’s van to Gay Street under the Woodland Street Bridge where he parked. They then called 911 emergency dispatchers.
When officers approached the van, the suspect and a woman who was with him, fled the scene.
The woman was quickly caught, but the male suspect jumped over a wall and fell down a river embankment. He because stuck in the brush over the Cumberland River.
Police were able to talk the suspect into surrendering so they could help him. Rescue crews had to reach him by boat.
The suspects’ identities were not available.
