NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro police have arrested one man in connection to a deadly shooting on January 17.

Early Friday morning, police found 51-year-old James Span shot to death inside a van on Taylor Street in the Buena Vista area.

Witnesses say Span and 51-year-old Joseph D. Smith got into an argument inside an apartment in the area and were both asked to leave. Shortly after, gunshots were heard.

Smith was arrested on Thursday and charged with criminal homicide.

Metro police said Smith, who is homeless, was convicted of second-degree murder in 1988.
