SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities said the body of a 4-year-old boy has been recovered from Lake Erie after a massive search in northern Ohio.

The mayor and police chief of the city of Sheffield Lake told reporters that Sidney Heidrick's body was found Saturday afternoon not far from where he was last seen Friday at around 4:30 p.m. EDT.

The exact time and how he was located weren't released immediately. Authorities said he apparently drowned.

The FBI, Coast Guard and some two dozen other federal, state and local agencies participated in the search, which also drew hundreds of volunteers.

Authorities said he was visiting his grandparents' house and apparently walked off Friday.

His family had released a statement of gratitude for the search effort on Saturday as it was continuing.
