CLINTON, Tenn. (AP) — Officials in Tennessee say police fatally shot a man who pointed a gun at officers.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says officers responded Tuesday evening to a report of a man in Clinton who had a gun and was threatening to harm himself.

The statement says officers tried to persuade the man to drop the gun, but at some point he pointed it at officers, who fired at him. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Officials say officers with the Clinton Police Department, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, and the 7th Judicial Crime Task Force responded to the scene. It wasn't clear which officers fired their weapons.

Authorities didn't immediately release the identity of the man killed. No officers were injured.
