Educators may now get their back-to-school supply lists directly to parents who are shopping online, and they can win a prize for doing it.

Amazon.com appears to be pursuing teachers by offering incentives, such as a chance to win a $1,000 gift card for publishing their lists on the website.

Walmart offers a similar online search tool for back-to-school supply lists. The retail shopping giant says if teachers struggle to upload their lists, just send it to them and they will handle it for you.

Target has School List Assist, which offers to ship items, or shoppers may do an in-store pickup.

Why are big companies fighting so hard for back-to-school dollars already?

Some schools are already back in session. Also, the National Retail Federation says spending on school supplies is so high it falls just behind Black Friday and the holiday shopping season. But it expects spending will drop this year after parents splurged in 2014, according to a release issued July 15.
