SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Middle school teacher Emily Perakes was arrested and accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old.
The 28-year-old teaches 6th grade at Harris Middle School in Bedford County. According to Bedford County Sheriff Austin Swing she was charged with aggravated statutory rape of a student who attends another school.
Perakes allegedly had a sexual encounter with the student at a fast-food restaurant, and the teen has spent the night at Perakes’ home, according to a detective.
The sheriff said the aggravated enhancement on the charge was made due to the fact Perakes is more than ten years older than the alleged victim.
NewsChannel 5 reached out to Perakes but could be reached for comment. School officials said Perakes was "suspended as a teacher indefinitely without pay pending further investigation."
This is an ongoing investigation.
