NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The age limit to buy tobacco and vaping products could be raised from 18 to 21.

Republican lawmakers Senator Shane Reeves and Representative Bob Ramsey introduced the bill in legislature.

Nationally, 95 percent of adults who smoke start before they turn 21.

Smoking-related health care costs in the state were two point six billion dollars with about $160 million from TennCare.

Supporters say raising the age could reduce early deaths by ten percent.
