NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Nashville International Airport has established cleaning protocols to address the new coronavirus in Tennessee.

A 44-year-old Williamson County man was diagnosed with COVID-19, the first case in the state. He recently traveled to Boston through BNA.

Airlines have also established protocols for their employees. They will clean the airplanes after every flight. If they find that someone is showing symptoms of the illness on the flight, there's an enhanced cleaning process that happens right after the flight.

Airline gate areas are cleaned after the last flight and routinely throughout the day. The ventilation systems will be cleaned regularly and cleaning staff is wearing disposable medical gloves.

Restrooms at BNA are closing every two hours for cleaning and disinfecting all touchpoints, using an EPA-approved cleaning agent.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are outside each restroom and the security checkpoint. They will be refilled every two hours.

"I think all that you'd notice is a continued emphasis on the cleaning," said BNA President Doug Kreulen. "Hand sanitizer is a luxury. Washing with hot water and soap, we've been going through hand sanitizer like it's on sale. We used a 30-day supply in five days."

Kreulen is also on the governor's COVID-19 task force. The airport will follow this cleaning protocol 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
