Police identify body found in car fire in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A body was found inside of a burning car in Nashville.

According to Metro Police, a vehicle was taken in a carjacking at about 9:00p.m. Wednesday in Goodlettsville. About 30 minutes later, police said it was found on fire in an alleyway off of 25th Avenue.

Firefighters put out the fire and discovered a body in the driver's seat.

The victim has been identified as 37-year old Mathias Smith of Nashville.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. However, the Medical Examiner reported that there was no penetrating trauma to the body such as gunshot or stab wounds.
