Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers say a body was found along the side of Interstate 40 in Wilson County.

They believe the body was there for more than two days before a TDOT mowing crew found it while picking up trash before cutting the grass. It was found on the shoulder of the highway Monday around 3:45 p.m.

Troopers say the body belongs to a 34-year-old man. No other identification was given as troopers worked to confirm his identity with family members.

Troopers say he was walking around 1 a.m. Saturday morning from the Mt. Juliet area toward Lebanon when he was hit by a car. The driver did not call 911.

Clothing and automobile parts were left behind near mile marker 232. A pair of shoes was visible. Troopers say they are marking and collecting anything that might be evidence so they can test it for DNA to try to tie it to the victim. They were mapping the scene most of Monday afternoon.
