A massive project years in the works, and a year behind schedule, is about to take a big step forward.

It's the Bridge Over Broad project in Murfreesboro, where Broad Street meets Old Fort Parkway and Memorial Boulevard.

Almost 60,000 people go through the intersection every day, but for two weekends starting as soon as this month, -- it will be shut down to make those big changes -- including installing the giant beams that will become the base of the bridge that will connect Old Ford Parkway and Memorial Boulevard over Broad Street.

"We're going to have at least two weekends where we're going to have to shut down that intersection, so during that time there's going to be a lot of people on those alternate routes," said Katy Schulte with TDOT.

TDOT says during the intersection closures, all businesses will be open as usual, with access for people to get to them.  The entire bridge project is scheduled to be finished in December.
