Burglary Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder Of An Officer

Posted

Officers with Clarksville Police Department Special Operation Unit and ATF agents arrested a fugitive wanted on a four-count grand jury indictment including attempted murder of a police officer.

Tonie Buchanan, 19, was wanted on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and gun possession during the commission of a felony for a July 6 home invasion robbery.

He will be brought to Nashville in the near future.

Three gunmen, including Buchanan, allegedly forced their way into a Hermosa Street residence after a woman inside refused to let them in. She hid in a closet and called 911.

An officer quickly arrived and saw three men, armed with handguns, run out the front door. He took cover and shouted commands for the men to stop.

Buchanan allegedly turned and fired shots at Officer Tyree. No one was struck by the gunfire.  All three suspects fled on foot.  The officer did not return fire.

James Woodard Jr., 21, and Dandre Whitley, 19, were named as the other two suspects.  Grand Jury indictments were issued against all three on September 22. Woodard, of Chesapeake Circle, and Whitley, of Curtis Street, were both arrested on September 30 and remain jailed.
