A carjacking in East Nashville was caught on camera, showing the victims yelling at the thief as he drove away in her car.

"We called the police four times. Three times by my friend, and one time by another friend," one witness told NewsChannel 5, who wished to remain anonymous.

Witnesses called for help, after watching four guys who were checking for unlocked vehicles in a gated East Nashville community.

"We see a red car come in and they start ducking behind the cars going towards her, and we're watching this from the window," said the witness.

However, the onlookers never expected what happened next.

"They walk up to her, grab her, they take her keys and I hear her scream, please don't take my car," said the witness.

That's when the suspect took the victim's car keys, and took off in her vehicle.

"We start running downstairs so we run get down here. One of my friends was able to get to them while he was waiting for the gate to open. She records the guy taking the car," said the witness.

One witness was able to capture this cell phone video minutes before police arrived on the scene.

"About three or four residents came outside they heard her screaming so much. She was crying. She didn't have her phone or anything the took everything," said the witness.

Residents said a scary situation grew even more intense when they couldn't get in contact with anyone from the apartment complex.

"I couldn't sleep that night. It's kind of scary. And we had no one to contact here so that was kind of disheartening. How are we supposed to let you know what happened when we have no one here to contact," said the witness.

NewsChannel 5 reached out to the Uptown Flats apartment complex, and couldn't get in contact with management either.

As of Tuesday afternoon, residents hadn't heard from them either. Thankfully that victim was not hurt but residents say she is moving out of her apartment.

If you know who that man is, or where he may be, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at (615) 74-CRIME.
