NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police say a carjacking ended with a deadly, wrong-way crash in Antioch. One of the suspected carjackers was killed.
The crash happened Wednesday night on Murfreesboro Pike near the Rutherford County line. Metro Nashville police say the ordeal began at 9:25 p.m. when two suspects carjacked a man who was pulling in his driveway on Linbar Drive.
Police say the masked suspects were armed with a long gun and a pistol. They took off in the victim’s Dodge Charger.
Officers spotted the car a short time later and began pursuing it. The driver sped away, crossed into oncoming traffic on Murfreesboro Pike and hit a Honda Sedan.
The Charger overturned and caught fire. At one point, the ammunition in the car began to explode in the fire. Officers pulled one of the suspects from the wreck but the other did not survive.
The suspect who survived the crash has been identified as 23-year-old Dariel Jackson. Metro Police say Jackson has been discharged from the hospital and will be charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated robbery & vehicular homicide.
The suspect who died in the crash has been identified as only a 25-year-old Memphis man.
One person in the Honda has serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Another person in the car went to a hospital to be checked.
Neither suspect was immediately identified.
