So far this year, 107 people have contracted the measles across the United States, according to the CDC, including cases in Tennessee.

Tennessee is one of 21 states where a measles case was reported. A total of 118 cases were reported during 2017.

While the state does require children that enroll in child care facilities and public schools to have their measles vaccination, children can be exempted for medical or religious reasons.

Doctors warn that not getting vaccinated could have serious consequences.

Measles is usually passed through coughing and sneezing.

Visit the CDC's website for more information on the disease or vaccine.
