Cheatham County escaped inmate surrenders to police

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Cheatham County inmate who escaped custody while on trash duty turned himself into police one day after walking away.

Officials took to social media Thursday to alert the public and ask for help in their search for inmate Greg Taylor.

Taylor was serving a misdemeanor sentence for failure to pay child support. escaped Thursday by stealing a county government vehicle on Hwy 12.

Police say he was working on the trash pickup crew when he got behind the wheal of a county truck and drove away. All available units responded and found the truck abandoned at the end of King’s Terrace off Valley View Drive where Taylor ran into the woods.

THP Helicopter and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office K-9 joined in on the search with Ashland City and Pleasant View Police Departments, but the search was suspended hours later.

Taylor was expected to be released early but is now facing felony escape and vehicle theft charges.

Taylor surrendered to police Friday afternoon at 41A and Old Hickory Blvd.
