MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Virgil Gammon, the chief deputy for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, has been fired by Sheriff Robert Arnold.
Lisa Marchesoni, spokeswoman for the agency, confirmed his termination Friday.
“Sheriff Robert Arnold told Deputy Chief Virgil Gammon Friday that his services are no longer needed at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office,” she said in a statement provided to NewsChannel 5.
Gammon joined the sheriff’s office in 1977 and is listed on its website as the third in command.
Gammon apparently addressed the issue on his Facebook page, saying he "no longer work [sic] for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. I was just to [sic] by Sheriff Robert Arnold that my service are no longer needed. 38 years of service. Fired"
Sheriff Arnold has not made any further comment.
