FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — An Interstate 65 North exit ramp has reopened after a bleach leak in Franklin.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Monday at northbound exit 68 at Cool Springs Boulevard. Crews worked to clean the spill from a 65-gallon bleach leak.

Cleanup crew members wore masks, but Williamson County Emergency Management said there were no contamination concerns to residents. It was leaking from the truck which was on its way to a water treatment plant. Anthony Sedlak of the Franklin Fire Department told NewsChannel 5 that it was easily cleaned up because the chemical was water soluble.

It was the first the incident since the fire department got its state-of-the-art hazmat truck not even a week ago. Fire officials say the new hazmat truck was a much-needed upgrade for the city.

"The city has been growing so obviously we need a better truck," Sedlak said.

There has been a hazmat team in Franklin for nearly 20 years, with more than 30 members. However, the old trucks were not the easiest or most compatible to work with. Sedlak believes the new hazmat truck will last for at least 20 years. It has more room, extra tools and additional resources such as a camera and forecast system in place.

"We're able to afford equipment like this and makes it easy on the guys to operate. The guys here are all trained so we're super excited for all of it," Sedlak added.

The new truck cost $575,000 and was custom built in Colorado.
