Christmas Fundraiser To Help Feed Local Students

Posted

A West Nashville Church held its annual Christmas fundraiser for students in need.

More than 60 festive booths from pottery and local art to Christmas decor filled Western Hills Church in West Nashville on Saturday

Throughout the day people bought items to support the Backpack Buddies program.

It provides snacks for children on limited incomes so that they will have food to eat during the weekends at home.

Organizer Gayla Pugh said donations are always welcome year-round.

"One thing that is very helpful, little containers of apple sauces and snack crackers, little canned meats. Anything that we can put into the backpacks. We have a lot of hungry children right here in Nashville, and it is a constant job to keep these backpacks filled every Friday," Pugh said.

More than $2000 was raised. Students from Gower and Pegram Elementary Schools will benefit from the fundraiser.
