Clarksville boy hit by van while chasing ball

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Clarksville boy was struck in the head by a van while attempting to retrieve his ball from under the van Thursday morning.

According to Clarksville police, the 4-year-old boy was carrying a ball while walking toward Summit Heights Court in Summit Heights Housing Complex.

The boy dropped his ball, which then rolled under a van that was on Summit Heights Court.

As the boy tried to retrieve the ball from under the van - which was being driven by a 67-year-old man - the rear tire of the van struck the boy in the head.

The boy was taken to a Nashville hospital via LifeFlight. While he sustained injuries to his head, he was conscious and stable when he was transported from the scene.

Charges are currently undetermined.

Clarksville police say they are currently sorting through conflicting statements about the crash. They only provided known information. This is a developing story.
