Clarksville Police: Man Assaulted Officer Over Popcorn Argument

Posted

A man allegedly assaulted a Clarksville police officer after a movie theater concession stand refused to sell him popcorn.

The incident was reported around 11:30 p.m. Sunday at a movie theater on Tiny Town Road.

Officials with Clarksville Police said 50-year-old Paul West became irate after the concession stand, which had already closed, wouldn’t sell him popcorn.

West got an empty container out of the trash and demanded an employee fill it up. When the person refused, he allegedly threw it at the employee, knocked over a display in the lobby and then ran off into the theater.

Officer Jennifer Renken arrived on the scene and tried to detain West, when he allegedly assaulted her. Police said he threw a trash can at her and punched her several times in the face.

Renken then restrained West, at which time police said he continued trying to punch and bite her. She suffered minor injuries as a result.

West was arrest on charges of assault, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and resisting. He was booked on a $22,500 bond.
