CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Clarksville Police (CPD) have solved the case of the man dressed as a clown offering candy in the area of Hayden Drive, Golf Club Lane, and Paradise Hill Road this morning.

Earlier this morning around 7:30, a couple of 5th grade children said a man dressed as a clown offered them candy. Scared, they ran away and told administrators at their school.

The administrators alerted the school resource officer, who had police begin a search for the clown.

CPD eventually learned that he is an older man who dresses up as a clown every year on his birthday to hand out candy to people, and today is his birthday.

CPD went to a couple of places he frequents, where people confirmed he was at those places dressed up as a clown. They also told CPD that he is a nice man and is known to hand out candy regularly.

CPD found the man and spoke with him, confirming he did not mean any harm, and that nothing indicated to them that he intended to scare anyone.

The businesses and locations where he was spotted all fall in line with where he was today.

CPD assures everyone they can now breathe, and thank those who helped them solve the mystery of the clown.
