Just over 24 hours after hate messages were spray painted on the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, the community came together to show support.
On Monday, vandalism was discovered at the center on Veals Road. Hate messages were spray painted in green in three locations, and bacon was placed at the entrance of the school. Muslims refrain from eating pork.
Tuesday evening, the American Muslim Advisory Council and the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro held a vigil at the center.
Organizers said the event was meant to show strength and solidarity in the aftermath of the vandalism.
The Rutherford County Sheriff's office is investigating the vandalism. Detectives have also talked with federal authorities about the crime.
