Convicted felon wrecks car after home drug-related robbery

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A convicted felon is behind bars again and is facing new charges in an apparent drug-related robbery that took place on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the suspect, Marvell Thomas, 31, and his accomplice forced their way into home on Morrow Road. One of the men then held the victim at gunpoint while the other stole items from the residence.

As they left the home, Thomas fired a gun towards the victim.

The suspects then confronted a woman outside of the house before they drove off in a rented silver Toyota Camry. The woman, got into her car and began following the men in the car. They fired shots towards her but she was able to get their license plate information before discontinuing her pursuit.

Police contacted the rental company who were able to provide GPS coordinates for Camry. A police helicopter, along with ground units were able to locate the vehicle.

The vehicle then crashed on Gallatin Pike at Douglas Avenue.

After a brief foot pursuit, Douglas was taken into custody. Both a semi-automated pistol and a backpack that had been taken from the victim's house were recovered inside the car. Additionally, Thomas also had methamphetamine in his possession.

Thomas was later positively identified as the robber.

Thomas has many previous convictions. These include aggravated robbery, sexual battery, and felony drug possession, is facing the following charges aggravated robbery, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, assaulting a police officer, evading arrest, felon in possession of a handgun, gun possession during the commission of a dangerous felony, and sex offender registration violations.

Detectives are currently working to identify the second suspect.
