A 19-year-old was arrested in Cookeville and charged with attempted criminal homicide.
Officials said the incident happened around 2 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of West 5th Street.
Reports stated 19-year-old Jonathan R. Dees had allegedly fired from a vehicle into a home in that area. Two men fired back.
Authorities said they found several spent casings outside of the home. There was also evidence the home had been hit by at least one bullet.
Dees then left the area, but officials with the Sparta Police Department and White County Sheriff’s Office later conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle.
He was taken into custody and charged with attempted criminal homicide, four counts of reckless endangerment, and violation of bond conditions.
Dees was booked into the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. He was being held on a $278,000 bond.
An investigation revealed a natural gas meter was damaged by gunfire during the incident and was leaking.
The Cookeville Fire Department responded and the immediate area was evacuated as a precaution until the leak was contained. No injuries were reported.
The incident was believed to be related to domestic violence. Anyone with information that could help in this case has been urged to call Detective Jamey McCurry at 931-520-5312.
