Officials with the Cookeville Police Department said a possible hostage situation turned out to be a false report, and a man has been taken into custody.
Police officers had responded in force to the area of South Willow Avenue and State Street before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
In a tweet from the official Cookeville Police account, officials asked the public to avoid that area if possible while they worked at the scene.
Just 15 minutes later they said the situation turned out to be a false report.

Authorities confirmed 47-year-old Jerry A. Lane, Jr. was arrested for false reporting. Further details on his arrest were not yet available.
