Music City started its 4th of July celebrations with the annual Hot Chicken Festival.

To celebrate the 10th year for the festival former mayor Bill Purcell led the biggest parade in its history.

Five teams competed in the amateur cooking contest, but team Burn Unit took home the prize. For some it was years in the making.

"We've been cooking hot chicken for about two years just at home and at personal events. It seems that every time we cook it everybody seems to enjoy it, and we thought we'd bring it up and let Nashville experience the hot chicken that we make,” said Chris Lilly with Lilly’s Hot Chicken.

Teams were judged by Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, former mayor Bill Purcell, County Clerk Brenda Wynn, Southcomm's Chris Ferrell and NewsChannel 5’s very own Meryll Rose.
