One person was killed in a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 65, just north of downtown Nashville.

The incident was reported shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday in northbound lanes near Fern Avenue.

Reports stated 18-year-old Diego De La Cruz-Taperia, who was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus, allegedly over-steered in a clockwise direction, traveled off the right side of the road, and went up an embankment.

The vehicle then fell back to the roadway and rolled multiple times.

There were four passengers in the backseat. One of them was identified as 20-year-old Juana Taperia-Gomez. Police said she was ejected during the crash. She passed away shortly after being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Two others in the backseat were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other three in the vehicle were not injured.

According to reports, there was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene.

Authorities said the investigation remained ongoing as they attempted to determine if another non-contact vehicle was involved in the crash.

The interstate was closed for several hours while the fatal crash team investigated.
