A crash on Interstate 65 South in Robertson County killed one person and closed the interstate for hours.

The two-vehicle crash was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at mile marker 104 in Millersville.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the crash involved a motorcycle and a commercial vehicle.

According to the THP report, a motorcycle and semi truck were traveling in the southbound lanes near the 103 mile marker.

After negotiating a curve at the bottom of the ridge, both vehicles braked and attempted to avoid crashing into congested traffic.

The commercial truck was unable to stop in enough time to avoid colliding with the motorcycle and the rider.

The motorcyclist, 18-year-old Caleb Gildersleeve, was killed in the crash.

Southbound lanes were closed and not expected to clear until 3 p.m. Traffic was being diverted to alternate routes.
