Metro crews recovered a woman's body from the Cumberland River after she reportedly went for a swim.
The call came from Victory Avenue on the east side of the Shelby Pedestrian Bridge where someone was reported to be in the water Friday evening.
Saturday, authorities identified the woman as 31-year-old Tamica Johnson. They confirmed she was homeless.
A friend told officers they had been on the east side of the river, around the area of Nissan Stadium, when Johnson decided to go swimming.
The friend reportedly called for help when Johnson did not resurface.
The Office of Emergency Management and Nashville Fire Department were notified, and boats searched the water. After an extensive search, the victim was recovered deceased.
Authorities said there were no indications of foul play. An autopsy was planned.
