Crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation have been out patching up potholes on Interstate 440.

Due to the roadwork, some temporary overnight lane closures will be put in place.

The closures have been expected from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday over the next three weeks as crews patch up, mill, and clear the roadway to prepare for a massive reconstruction project this summer.

They've been patching up some potholes overnight as they get ready for the big patches in the coming weeks, possibly as early as next week.

The contractor has also been tied-up working on the Interstate 24 rehab project downtown.

The bigger reconstruction project that begins this summer on I-440 has been estimated to take up to three years to complete. Those closures will also take place during the day. Stay with NewsChannel 5 for the latest information on alternate routes and closures.

Funding will be coming from the IMPROVE Act passed in 2017, which raised the gas tax by six cents and diesel tax by ten cents over the next three years.
