NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The sight and smell of smoke lingered around downtown Nashville for hours tonight as crews worked to put out a massive fire at a Buena Vista Home.

That fire started just after 6:30 on Monroe Street and Arthur Avenue.

When crews first arrived on the scene it was still light out but they ended up battling the blaze for hours.

It seemed to be under control at one point then flames started started shooting through the homes roof.

The home, located on Monroe Street, was vacant at the time of the fire. Neighbors say it had been empty for about six months.

The property owner said he bought the house a few months ago and planned to have it rezoned and renovated. Now he says he's devastated.

Fire crews have not commented on what could have caused this fire.
