Remains found along the Cumberland River have been determined to be human, officials confirmed.
The discovery was made around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the west side of the river, between James Robertson Parkway and the CSX railroad bridge.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said three hikers stumbled upon the remains and reported it to police at the Criminal Justice Center.

They were interviewed before several crews spent much of the night looking for the remains.
Although the cause of death was not known, police said the remains are human.
The investigation was ongoing. No additional details were known.
