CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — 56-year-old Jesse Spivey was taken into custody on charges of domestic assault and reckless endangerment for pushing a family member down and threatening them with a knife.
Deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a suicidal man Monday evening at the 300 block of Muddy Branch Lane.
When responders arrived, they found Spivey on his front porch with a gun to his head, threatening to kill himself.
As the responders set a perimeter around the area, they attempted to negotiate with Spivey. During the negotiation, Spivey tried to light a cigarette when the firearm discharged. There were no injuries from that shot.
Spivey finally agreed to surrender on the condition that he could speak to someone on the phone. After putting the firearm back inside the house, he was taken into custody with no further incident.
EMS transported Spivey to Cumberland Medical Center, where he received a mental health evaluation and spent the night.
This morning, Spivey was taken into custody on the charges of aggravated domestic assault and reckless endangerment after statements taken from the family member made it clear that he had pushed them and threatened them with a knife.
Spivey has a bond of $27,000.
