CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Two people were killed and one was injured in a crash on Interstate 40 eastbound in Hickman County.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday near the exit for State Route 230.
Two commercial tractor trailer trucks crashed. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol's preliminary report, the truck traveling west hit the concrete barrier, crossed over the median and into the eastbound lane, hitting the other truck.
Both drivers were killed, 58-year-old Johnny F. Smith and 44-year-old Muriz Smajic, and the eastbound truck's passenger, Muamer Smajic, was injured.
The wreck also caused a diesel fuel spill which caused all eastbound lanes to be blocked. Traffic was being diverted off the interstate at exit 152.
The roadway wasn't reopened until at least 5 p.m.
