KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The heat is on in Big Orange country and causing changes to one of The University of Tennessee’s most well-known landmarks.
It’s known as the Rock and for decades students have painted their messages, good and bad, for the entire campus to see.
Wednesday layers and layers of paint came sliding off. Some believe the summer heat is to blame.
UT Facilities said the paint was several inches thick and heavy machinery was needed to remove it. All that paint ended up weighing around 2 tons.
Clean up is now complete and the Rock is once again a blank canvas waiting for students to continue the unique tradition.
