A 72-year-old dementia patient has been found safe, nearly 24 hours after he went missing.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department asked for help from the public to find Lonnie Richard Smith.
He was believed to have walked away from his home on Wakefield Drive in South Nashville between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday.
According to reports, Smith was known to take short walks, and often does so in the Ellington Agricultural Center. Police searched the area and were unable to find him there.

Smith was finally located by crews from the Metro Office of Emergency Management with the assistance of "non-aggressive" tracking dogs. He was found in a wooded area near the agricultural center sometime around noon Tuesday.
Police said Smith was in good condition, though it wasn’t clear if he had spent the overnight hours in the cold and rain.
