NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Saturday marks a day years in the making for Bellevue.

Demolition has been set to begin on the old Bellevue Mall to make way for a new multi-million dollar development known as One Bellevue Place.

The community has been invited to mark the occasion at a celebration at the site of the old mall at 3 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature food, family entertainment and music. The official demolition ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.

Council Member Sheri Weiner said it was important to involve the community in the historic day.

“This is more of a confirmation that this is happening, and here we are,” said Weiner.

The new $200 million investment will turn the property into a mixed-use site with nearly 400,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space. It will also feature a hotel, movie theater, and residential units. The project has been expected to create almost 3,000 jobs for the city.

“The community has been waiting on pins and needles for so much time,” said Council Member Weiner. “It has impacted every walk of life, and this is transformative. It will make a difference for everyone in the community.”

Demolition will take four to six months to complete. One Bellevue Place has been slated to open in 2017.
