Dickson County Library To Likely Move

County commissioners are expected to approve a $1.5 million dollar purchase that would transform a former grocery store into a new home for the county's library.

The Dickson County Library has battled mold on books and structural problems in its current location. More than one year ago, an exterior wall collapsed and forced the library to close for about one month.

"We have to use dehumidifiers throughout the building but several of the books have had mold on them," said library director Tamara Hammer. "We would love to have a new library just for space."

Library Board of Trustees member Mike Petty said after a series of inspections, the county was close to approving the purchase of a new building, with a final vote expected to take place Monday night.

If approved, Petty hopes the the building would be renovated and open to the public by this time next year.
