District 1 Council Race Headed To Runoff

The race for Metro Council's District 1 seat will be decided in a runoff election between Judy D. Cummings and Jonathan B. Hall.

The race was a close one. Both Cummins and Hall were neck and neck until the final votes were counted.

Cummings is the pastor at New Coventant Christian Church in Nashville. She is the first woman to ever lead the church as senior pastor.

Hall is a local business man who grew up and lives in the Bordeaux area of Nashville. He's been a strong advocate for the community's growth and revitalization.

The district seat was left vacant when Nick Leonardo became General Sessions Judge.

Leonardo filled the seat after councilman Loniel Greene resigned from his position amid controversy. Greene was recently convicted in a coercion case after trying to convince the victim in a domestic violence case not to testify against her attacker, Greene's cousin.
