Dolly Parton Telethon Raises $9M For Fire Victims

Posted

Dolly Parton’s star-studded Smoky Mountains Rise telethon has raised millions of dollars for wildfire victims in East Tennessee.

Tuesday's fundraiser brought in nearly $9 million – that total is expected to go up as donations come in through the mail.

“I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the people who have donated from all over the country and to my friends who donated their time, their talent, and money for My People,” Parton said.

The telethon, which featured artists like Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Chris Stapleton, Chris Young, Paul Simon and Dierks Bentley, was broadcast on multiple networks, including NewsChannel 5 Plus.

More than 1,000 families have been displaced after deadly wildfires swept through Sevier County.
