Families Receive Free Bikes On Christmas

Posted

A group of organizers made sure dozens of families had a special Christmas morning.

Members of the Edgehill Bike Club handed out presents and bicycles to nearly 40 families. They spent Christmas morning in the Edgehill Community near 12 South spreading the essence of the holiday spirit.

"This is a blessing to give these bikes and see these kids smile through this neighborhood," organizer Tony Key said.

Key has been running the Edgehill Bike Club for a number of years. This is the second year for the bike and toy giveaway.

"These families feel like they're being squeezed in so we're just trying to bring them extra joy ," he said.

Children were laughing and parents were smiling after they realized they would have something to open on Christmas.

The rain didn't keep people away.  Nearly every bike was given away. The organization gets donations from different community sponsors that include several businesses in the area.

"They know I'm right here trying," Key said. "They're my big brothers and sisters."
