After a national search, the Metropolitan Board of Health of Nashville and Davidson County has announced Dr. Wendy Long as their selection as the new Director of Health of Nashville.

Wendy Long, M.D., M.P.H. is currently serving as the TennCare director, a position to which she was appointed in 2016 by Governor Bill Haslam. She will now be leaving this position in January to begin her new role as the Director of Health, pending contract approval.

“Wendy has a passion for the work she does and that is evident in her dedication to improving the health care system in our state,” Haslam said.

Dr. Long also has more than 30 years experience working in the Tennessee State Government.

“I’m thrilled to have been selected to lead the health department team and look forward to the opportunity to work with health department staff and community stakeholders to make a positive difference in the lives Metro Nashville residents,” said Dr. Long

Board members will vote on Dr. Long's contract at their monthly meeting on December 13.
