NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A woman was killed in an early-morning crash after her vehicle hit a tree while allegedly fleeing from a hit-and-run.

Metro police said 54-year-old Nina Page was driving her Ford van on Briley Parkway when she hit the back of a Toyota 4 Runner driven by Nashville Fire Department captain who was stopped at a red light. The Toyota had minor damages.

The captain said he pulled beside Page, who motioned to him she was going to pull over. He suggested they drive to a nearby gas station instead, and began to drive ahead of her. Page was following behind, but suddenly turned onto Kermit Drive.

The man made a U-turn in an attempt to follow her, but when he drove up to a sharp curve, the Ford had lost control and hit a tree.

Page was pronounced dead on the scene. Police said she was wearing her seat belt, and no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement were found. Police believe the crash was caused by excessive speed around the curve.
