NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville police investigated a deadly head-on crash in South Nashville late Sunday night.

The crash happened on Haywood Lane, east of East Ridge Drive, at about 10:00p.m. Sunday.

According to police, a person driving a silver Nissan drifted into a guardrail, then into the oncoming lane where he hit another car.

The driver of the Nissan died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Police identified him as 74-year-old Ramon Alberto Lopez, of Franklin.

The driver in the other vehicle was taken to another hospital with minor injuries.

Metro police are investigating what caused the driver to drift into oncoming traffic. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Witnesses said Lopez leaned over to the passenger side of the Nissan just before the crash.
