NASHVILLE, Tenn. – What started as a normal day for one liquor store clerk turned into a fight for his life, when he fought off a would-be thief, who attacked him in the store.

“Somebody came from outside. He got gun,” explained Major Discount Liquor store owner Adry Tawfik.

Surveillance showed a man make his way inside the store on Dickerson Pike Wednesday night a few minutes after 10:00 p.m.

He jumped on the counter, slamming a gun to the clerk, Jimmy's, head.

“If I have someone have gun, try to rob me, I have to kill him first,” Tawfik said. He applauded his employee who fought back against the would-be robber.

The tape showed Jimmy drag the masked man down the aisle of the store, both holding the gun. Then they stepped out of range of the 12 cameras in the store. Jimmy said at that moment he shoved the man into a shelf and grabbed a bottle of wine, slamming it over his head. He said he grabbed two more bottles, and hit the masked man with both before he ran off.

“He’s lazy,” Tawfik said about the suspect, “he don't like work that's why he want easy money.”

The man in the mask left injured and without any cash. Tawfik was glad Jimmy got away with just a bump and a few scratches. There's only one thing he has instructed him to do differently.

“He forgot we have gun here he should have shoot him in face,” he said. It was a warning for any others looking for trouble as the store returns to business as usual.
